I am a young drummer from Scotland, currently studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston (USA).
I am confident in jazz, metal, pop, rock, funk and country. I am always listening, always learning, always pushing myself, and can't imagine a life without drums being a big part of it.
I won Best Solo Performer at the the East Lothian heat of Scottish Young Musician of the Year in March 2023 having been runner up in 2022.
I perform as often as possible solo, with several bands (Cetaceans and Upward Mobility are on a major streaming platform), with Beatless (live in Scotland) and Bloodsport a new project. I'm also performing live with groups across musical genres at Berklee.
I am fundraising alongside this to make it possible for me to continue to attend Berklee and take my drumming career to the next level.
Please have a look at my social media, the bands I play with, and please have a think about helping me out via my GoFundMe page. Links to all of these are included below.
Thanks!
Here are some videos of me doing my thing from before I started at Berklee. I've definitely improved since then but I've left them on here purely for fun. There is some funk, some drum classics, some pop/rock and heavy stuff and a live performance.
Check out Instagram for me and my bands content.
(Apologies for the variable sound quality on some of these).
Christmas in L.A.by Vulfpeck - Ben Gentil drum cover. Gets my vote for the funkiest festive song ever.
Rosanna by Toto and Silly Putty by Stanley Clarke - Ben Gentil drum cover. These are a couple of drum classics from the Trinity Grade 8 syllabus.
Song 2 by Blur - Ben Gentil drum cover. As well as this solo cover, my band "X6" rock this one live.
The Captain by Biffy Clyro - Ben Gentil drum cover. Well, I couldn't call myself Scottish and not do some Biffy!
Lights Out by Royal Blood - Ben Gentil drum cover. If you want a heavy two piece with 50% drums - you go to RB. I just wish my mics could handle the levels. . .
The Pretender by Foo Fighters - Ben Gentil drum cover. How could I not?!
Love rears its ugly head by Living Colour - Ben Gentil drum performance. Recorded at a Knox Academy concert. Knox is a Scottish high school with a great history in music who give young people like me a taste of live performance. I owe them a lot.
